Fashion illustrations by Jim Howard entered into Boston Museum of Fine Arts Permanent Collection

Known for his dramatically lit fashion illustrations for top department stores in the 1970s, 80s and 90s, Jim Howard was invited to donate 39 of his works to the permanent collection of Boston's Museum of Fine Arts.

It's a wonderful honor for Jim, and an honor for paper doll collectors to have such a celebrated artist drawing paper dolls for us today. In 2009, his classic fashion illustrations were transformed into the paper doll format in Jim Howard's Fashion Illustration Paper Dolls, and he soon moved on to illustrating paper doll books of Gene Marshall and Her Glamorous Friends and Ida Lupino. Upcoming titles titles include Dorothy Lamour and Dandy Dolls.

I'm happy for him. I didn't know his previous works, but his paper dolls are wonderful. What an honor.

Jenny, I've been looking for 1954-1957 issues of "Playmate" Magazine for Children. When I was a child, I used to purchase this magazine every single month. Every month's issue held a small paper doll in the center pages of the magazine. I missed an issue with a tiny doll named Holly and want to surprise a friend of mine, who also used to collect this magazine, with that particular issue.

Do you know of where I can find it. I've contacted a lot of people and googled it with no luck. Earlier or later issues seem to be available but not those years.

Thanks so much!

Have you tried posting your request on the paper doll bulletin board? Someone there may be able to help you find the children's magazines you're looking for.
